Swedish Days ride tours scenic byways in Kane County

More than 700 riders are expected to tour scenic Kane County byways Sunday, June 27, as part of the 41st annual Swedish Days bike ride, sponsored by the Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club.

The ride starts at the Burlington Central High School, one mile west of Route 47 on Plato Road. There will be marked routes for 25, 45, 62, 75, or 100 miles, all on paved roads.

Check-in starts at 6 a.m. and is open until 9 a.m. Registration is $15, $25 on the day of the ride. The fee includes refreshments and snacks at several rest stops. Family rates are available.

For details, visit fvbsc.org. Riders can register online at active.com until Thursday, June 24.

The Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club is a nonprofit group that encourages biking and outdoor activities in the area, as well as group trips. The Swedish Days ride helps fund club activities, but a large portion of the proceeds is donated each year to other nonprofit groups with the goal of promoting biking in Illinois and the Fox Valley area, such as Tails to Trails conservancy, the Illinois Prairie Path, and Illinois Trails Conservancy.

The club was founded in 1968. It has more than 100 members from Kane, DuPage, Will and surrounding counties. The club is affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists, the League of Illinois Bicyclists, and the Active Transportation League.

Riders are welcome to join members on one of the weekly scheduled rides. For a schedule, visit fvbsc.org. Remember to bring your helmet!
