STC Undergound to host Skate Park Bash

The St. Charles Park District's teen center, the STC Underground, will host its third annual Skate Park Bash skate challenge and concert from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19 at Mount St. Mary Park, off Route 31.

The entry fee is $5, and skaters can register with the park district or before noon at Mount St. Mary Park on the day of the competition. The 12-and-under age bracket begins at 1 p.m., and ages 13 and older start at 1:30 p.m. All participants will free skate in front of a panel of judges who will select the top five skaters in each bracket to move on to the next round. Those skaters will perform a 60- to 90-second freestyle run and be evaluated on creativity, athleticism and degree of difficulty. Once the judges have tallied their scores, awards and prizes will be presented to the winners in each age category.

Thanks are extended to the St. Charles Youth Commission for their continued support and generous financial contribution to this event.

After the competition, participants and guests are invited to attend the Skate Park Bash concert in the park, with entertainment provided by area bands.

The Skate Park at Mount St. Mary Park is open year round and features a 4- by 18-foot mini ramp with quarter and bank; a 5- by 18-foot quarter pipe with piano; a 1- by 6-foot trick box; a 2.5- by 14-foot fun box; a 4- by 18-foot quarter pipe; and a 3- by 12-foot wedge.
