Your news: Hospital's Foundation board welcomes new trustees

The Northwest Community Hospital Foundation announces the appointment of two new members to its voluntary board of trustees: Diane "Dede" Wamberg, 60, of Barrington, and Betty Underwood, 52, of Arlington Heights.

Wamberg and Underwood are active volunteers in their respective communities. Both are NCH donors who served on the hospital's 50th Anniversary Gala Host Committee last year.

A nonprofit organization, the hospital relies on charitable gifts raised by the NCH Foundation to ensure excellent services.

"We are honored to have Dede and Betty on our board," said Foundation vice president David Ungurean. "Each has deep roots in the community, a strong desire to share talents, and a commitment to the hospital's advancement."

Wamberg's long history of volunteerism includes serving the Barrington Junior Women's Club, the former Barrington Area Arts Council and the Foglia YMCA in Lake Zurich. She completed a term on the Barrington School District 220 board, and as founding chair of District 220's Educational Foundation, she developed a new organization from the ground up.

Wamberg is a strong advocate of the hospital's Youth Center for the treatment of adolescent substance abuse, and her NCH donations are designated to this cause. A mother of seven and grandmother of five, she is a well-known champion of Barrington-area charities and often opens her home to host fundraisers for worthy causes.

After graduating from the University of California-Berkeley, Underwood held positions in operations management with several leading-edge entrepreneurial companies. She applied her professional expertise to community service while raising her two daughters.

Underwood's many volunteer activities have included serving as president of Dryden School PTA and secretary of the ABC 25 Foundation Board. She has been an effective fundraiser for several student activities at Prospect High School, Shelter Inc. and the NCH Fashion Show Committee. She currently serves as a volunteer for the Patient Advocate at NCH.
