After 30 years, VFW ramp a reality in Villa Park

It took 30 years, but ground was finally broken Monday to build a handicapped-accessible ramp at the Villa Park VFW hall.

A host of dignitaries were on hand, including Village President Tom Cullerton; Alberto Velasco, an assistant to U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, and Charles Seen, an architect from RS2 Architects.

Seen said veterans made a great sacrifice for us and the ramp will make it easier for those who are disabled to get into the building. He's donating his services to help make it happen.

Added Dennis Geisemen, VFW Commander: "It's been a long time coming for the ramp, starting back in 1980. It just never got going," he said. "Finally, we were able to come together and get everybody involved in putting the ramp in for our disabled veterans so they can access our facility,"

"It is a glorious day," he said. "That's all I can say."
