Sandal mishap cited in Batavia accident

A Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed through the window of a 7-11 store Friday when the driver's sandal became entangled with the accelerator.

A customer sustained minor cuts from flying glass, Batavia police reported. She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Wade A. Kohlmann, 44, of the 400 block of Franklin Street in Batavia, told police he was parking the vehicle in front of the store at 336 E. Wilson St. when the sandal mishap happened, causing the car to lunge over a curb and into the store's entrance. The Jeep ended up about 6 feet in to the store, according to the Batavia Fire Department.

A store employee standing behind the cash register counter, which is to the left of the entrance, was not injured.

The accident happened around 5:27 p.m. No tickets were issued.

The fire department estimated damage to the building and contents at $24,000.
