Bond set at $80,000 in Elk Grove stabbing

A Wyoming man had his bond set at $80,000 Tuesday on charges he stabbed two men Sunday night outside a bar on the 1100 block of East Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village.

Wayland A. Smith, 43, of Rock Springs, Wyo. was charged with two counts of aggravated battery.

A spokesman with the Cook County State's Attorney's office said an intoxicated Smith stabbed a 31-year-old man from Arlington Heights, and a 43-year-old man from Conroe, Texas after the two left the bar to smoke cigarettes. Each man was stabbed once with a box cutter.

Both remain in local hospitals undergoing treatment.

Circuit Court Judge Kay Hanlon set the bond and scheduled Smith's next court appearance for May 21 in Rolling Meadows.
