Addison woman accused of injuring man while trying to flee with his car

A 19-year-old Addison woman remained in jail Wednesday after being accused of injuring a man when she tried to flee in his car while intoxicated.

Charmaine D. Hunt, 625 Meadows Blvd., is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence, aggravated battery, reckless conduct and criminal trespass to a vehicle.

DuPage Circuit Judge John Kinsella agreed to reduce Hunt's bond but ordered that she be placed on an electronic-monitoring device if freed, following a grand jury indictment earlier this week.

Police said Hunt tried to make off with a 2008 Hyundai Sonata April 14 in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 900 bock of College Boulevard in Addison.

The male driver had just parked and the keys still were in the ignition. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries when dragged a short distance as he tried to hold on to the car while an intoxicated Hunt sped off, police said.

Hunt tried to flee on foot, but police said witnesses held her in the parking lot until they arrived. Hunt is not charged with trying to steal the car. Rather, authorities said she was acquainted with the driver and her intoxicated state likely fueled the behavior.

A companion, Juana S. Givens, 20, who shares an apartment with Hunt, is facing a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass to vehicle.
