Route 64 down to one lane

One lane of Route 64, just east of Randall Road in St. Charles, will be closed for one day this week. The closure is for eastbound traffic only. Increased travel times are expected. Questions regarding the closure can be directed to David Boesch of the county transportation department at (630) 845-7875.

Seniors, need tax help?

Free tax help is available to senior citizens courtesy of AARP-trained tax aides from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and the Geneva Township Senior Center, 400 Wheeler Drive. You'll need to bring your 2008 tax return and tax papers from 2009. For an appointment, call (630) 232-3602.

Garden club scholarship

The Geneva Garden Club is giving a $2,000 college scholarship. Applicants must live in ZIP code 60134, and pursue an education in horticulture, landscaping, environmental sustainability or a closely related field. To apply, see the "scholarship" link at Applications are due April 5.

Charity cake contest

"That Takes the Cake" cake show and contest, to raise money for the North Aurora River District Alliance, is from 1 to 4 p.m. April 11 at the Holiday Inn Aurora-North, 2424 W. Sullivan Road, Aurora. Entry forms and information are available at, and are due March 26. One of the judges will be Bob Brougham from The Cakery in North Aurora, who appeared on TLC TV's "Ultimate Cake-Off."
