A difference in leadership

The health care revision process has really presented the stark differences in the way each party leads.

The various groups of the Democratic Party have tugged, hemmed and hawed, wrestled, argued, etc. with the various portions of the proposed bill to ensure that their particular interests are included and/or protected.

On the other hand, since the day President Obama was elected, the Republican Party has marched lock-stepped in opposing any Obama program that did not kowtow to the Wall Street community or was not a detriment to the middle and lower classes of America. Rarely do they hesitate to dissent from the official party line.

It is not surprising that Democrats would squabble since they represent so many ideas and social groups. It is also not surprising that the Republicans march in line following the ranting of the ultra conservative right without a single divergent thought. It is sad to see a person like McCain turned into a quisling.

So it seems that the biggest difference between the political parties (and a litmus test for leadership) is the ability to formulate an independent thought.
