What's the alternative to a tax increase?

Not many people would enjoy a tax increase - I certainly would not. Not many people want to see essential programs cut - I certainly do not.

I regret that there is a tax increase looming for Illinois, and I deeply regret the cuts in our suburban school districts, that will hurt our children. I see Republicans making political hay over the proposed tax increase, and their supporters are decrying the cuts in school budgets. What I do not see or hear are the alternatives.

What would Republicans do instead of a tax increase?

What do Republican voters want as an alternative to cuts in school teachers and school programs? I hear a lot of criticism, but I hear nothing about an alternative plan. Like many states, Illinois is nearly bankrupt; touch choices must be made. It took a long time to get to this low point, and it will take a long time to get out. Tax increases are inevitable, even preferred, over the cutting of essential programs at our schools. Tell me if there is another choice.
