Get banks out of student loan system

With a son in college and two other children, my husband and I do our best to help pay college costs. But without help from student loans, it would be impossible.

Unfortunately, the current student loan system favors banks over ordinary people, so I was happy to hear that President Obama has proposed student loan reform that would end the unwarranted taxpayer subsidies that go to private banks, potentially saving billions over the next decade.

However, it now appears that President Obama's reform plans are under attack by student debt lobbyists, the banking industry, and senators. I strongly urge Senators Durbin and Burris and other senators to put students and American families first and support passage of Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act. It's time to lighten the load on the average American, and get the parasitic banks out of the government student loan system.
