Man charged in Glendale Heights home invasion

A 35-year-old Chicago man was being held Monday in DuPage County jail in connection with a home invasion in Glendale Heights, authorities said.

Eric R. Williams, of 1016 N. Massasoit, has been charged with home invasion, criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a firearm owners identification card.

Glendale Heights police say Williams forced his way into a home on the 100 block of Golfview Sunday night and held a man and woman captive at gunpoint. Police responded to the scene about 8:39 p.m. after the woman, who knows Williams, was able to escape.

After police arrived, they were able to convince Williams to release the man unharmed. A short time later, officers were able to convince Williams to lay down his handgun and leave the home. He then was arrested without incident.

No one was injured.

Authorities said they believe Williams targeted the home because he knew the female victim.
