Cops nab deported murderer in gang sweep

A Mexican citizen deported in 2003 after serving time for second-degree murder was arrested by federal agents as part of an anti-gang operation in Streamwood and Hanover Park last week and was charged with illegal re-entry.

According to the complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court, agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were conducting surveillance on 31-year-old Jose Armando Hernandez-Morales' residence on Church Road in Hanover Park along with officers from the Streamwood and Hanover Park police departments when they encountered him. He was arrested and fingerprinted, and the fingerprints matched for the same Hernandez-Morales convicted of second-degree murder in Cook County in 1999. He served almost four years in prison before being deported in 2003.

Hernandez-Morales is in ICE custody. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine. If convicted, he would serve the sentence before being deported again.
