Barrington plans for 150th anniversary

Many Northwest suburbs marked their 50th anniversaries during the past few years, but the village of Barrington is already preparing to celebrate its 150th. The village board Monday appointed 23 members to a sesquicentennial committee to begin planning events from November 2013 through February 2015.

The American Civil War was raging when residents voted to incorporate the village in November 1863, though the state didn't complete the incorporation process until Feb. 16, 1865.

The new committee - made up of longtime community volunteers and past and present officials from the village, park district, Barrington Unit District 220 and the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce - will hold its first meeting on the 145th anniversary of that date next month.
