New principal in line for Lisle High School

The start of the new decade will launch the start of a new era at Lisle High School, where Principal Ron Logeman is preparing to retire after 26 years at the helm.

Lisle Unit District 202 school board members are expected to approve the hiring of Logeman's replacement at 6 p.m. Monday. The new principal officially will assume the reins July 1.

Superintendent Patricia Wernet said she won't identify the new leader until the board approves the appointment.

Logeman, 55, has been the high school's principal since 1983 and has worked there for a total of 32 years, including stints as an English teacher and assistant principal.

He said he signed his retirement agreement with the district a few years ago; the search for his replacement began in September.

"Mentally I've been preparing for a change," he said Friday. "It seems like maybe it's the right time to move in a different direction - for all the right reasons."

Logeman said he plans to stay active during retirement, but hasn't laid too much groundwork, at least in part because there's still a lot to do at Lisle High School.

"I'm just busy," he said. "I stay focused on what needs to be done."

Wernet said the new principal was selected from among more than 100 applicants.

She said she met with each of the two finalists for roughly two hours and visited the finalist's school district to talk with the superintendent, building administrators, teachers and support staff.

Wernet and other District 202 administrators initially screened all the applications and 21 candidates were chosen for a 30- to 40-minute screening interview.

The pool then was narrowed to six candidates and a committee of parents, teachers, support staff and administrators talked to each of them for about 45 minutes.

She praised Logeman's long service to the district, calling him a "dedicated administrator" who "will be missed."
