Roselle police interviewing armed robbery suspect

A Keeneyville man is in police custody in connection with an armed robbery Sunday night at a Roselle convenience store, authorities said Monday.

Police said they are not releasing the identity of the 50-year-old man because he has not been charged by the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Police said the suspect was captured after officers responded at 8 p.m. Sunday to Quick Stop Foods, 996 W. Lake St., where the clerk told them a robber had fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money. The clerk said the gunman fired his weapon after leaving the store.

No injuries were reported.

Roselle Sgt. John Lawson said he is unsure why the man fired his weapon; it may have been an accident.

Roselle police - with the assistance of several other departments - conducted an extensive search and found the man walking in the area within hours of the robbery.

Police could not say if the man in custody is the same person suspected of robbing the nearby Roselle Bank and Trust, 1350 W. Lake St., about 12:50 p.m. Dec. 30, after telling employees he had a bomb. That suspect also fled on foot with an undisclosed sum of money.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is asked to call Detective Rich Hoffmann at (630) 671-4046 or e-mail crimetips@roselle.il.us.
