Sleepy Hollow charged in road rage incident denied pretrial release
A Sleepy Hollow man has been denied pretrial release after being charged in road rage case.
According to state prosecutors, Julio C. Salas, 35, of Sleepy Hollow struck the 61-year-old victim’s head and face multiple times and brandished a large knife after forcing him to stop his vehicle on Route 31 near Virginia Road in Crystal Lake Saturday.
Salas was accompanied by an estimated group of 15-20 motorcyclists, most of whom were detained by Crystal Lake Police following the incident.
Salas is charged with aggravated unlawful restraint, four counts of aggravated battery, one count of mob action, one count of aggravated assault, and two counts of battery.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the court granted the State’s petition to deny pretrial release for Salas.
“Violence on our roadways will not be tolerated,” state’s attorney Randi L. Freese said. “The allegations in this case describe a baseless, senseless, and brutal attack on a 61-year-old man by a group of motorcyclists.”
Salas’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
