Police: Addison man was driving drunk with child in car
An Addison man has been charged with driving drunk while having a child in the back seat of his vehicle.
Alexis Lara, 24, of the 100 block of North May Street, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, a felony, and misdemeanor endangering the health or life of a child.
Elmhurst police say that around 9:46 p.m. Sunday, they were called about a woman hitting the window of an SUV near Schiller Street and Hampshire Drive.
They saw a matching vehicle having difficulty staying in its lane, veering into the opposite lane.
Lara was the driver. His wife and 22-month-old child were also in the vehicle.
An officer saw three open bottles of beer in the vehicle. Lara had a blood alcohol content of .208, according to authorities.
He has two convictions for DUI and is on probation for aggravated DUI.
DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden denied prosecutors’ request to detain him pretrial. The judge ruled prosecutors failed to prove it was a detention-eligible offense, according to court records.
While Lara awaits trial, he must wear an alcohol monitor, is not allowed to possess or drink alcohol or controlled substances, and is prohibited from driving.
His next court date is April 27.
