  • Huntley falls to Warren Mar 23, 2015 9:17 PM
    Warren 6, Huntley 4: Shannon Walsh went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI but defending Class 4A state champion Warren scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to outlast Huntley at the dome in Rosemont. Jessica Shields and losing pitcher Tiffany Giese also had RBI for the Red Raiders (1-1). Hampshire vs. Dundee-Crown ppd.: The scheduled game between Hampshire and Dundee-Crown at the Rosemont dome was postponed due to weather and travel concerns The game will be made up on Thursday at 10 a.m. Hampshire’s scheduled game at Marian Central for Wednesday has also been moved to the dome.

     
  • Lake Zurich passes up Hoffman Estates Mar 23, 2015 5:40 PM
    After four innings in Monday morning’s ‘breakfast special’ at the Rosemont Dome, the Hoffman Estates softball team held a 6-0 lead over Lake Zurich. But the Bears started to eat away at the lead with 1 run in the fifth and sixth innings. Then, in the top of the seventh, Lake Zurich took its biggest bite. The Bears scored 5 runs to grab a 7-6 lead which held up for the final score in the scheduled 8 a.m. contest that started late due to the adverse driving conditions early in the morning.

  • Warren handles Huntley indoors Mar 23, 2015 10:41 PM
    Warren’s softball team kept up its hot start to the season Monday. Jensen Plata was 2-for-4 with a double, as the Blue Devils improved to 4-0 by beating Huntley 6-4 at The Dome in Rosemont.

     
  • Schneider tosses collegiate no-hitter Mar 24, 2015 2:39 PM
    Alverno College freshman pitcher Olivia Schneider (Hawthorn Woods/Lake Zurich) was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference softball pitcher of the week for events of March 2-8, as selected by the league’s sports information directors. Schneider pitched a no-hitter in her collegiate pitching debut, as the Inferno earned an 8-0 victory over crosstown foe Mount Mary.

     
  • Perdue, Lakes warm to the challenge in Florida Mar 22, 2015 6:37 PM
    Ally Perdue pitched a 2-hit shutout, as Lakes’ softball team opened its Florida trip Sunday with a 3-0 win over Ramsey. Melanie Grupka had 2 hits and an RBI for Lakes (2-0), while Rachel Becker contributed a hit, 2 walks and an RBI. The Eagles scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

     
  • Streamwood sweeps way to 3-0 record Mar 21, 2015 8:04 PM
    Streamwood’s softball team swept Fenton on Saturday to run its record to 3-0 under first-year coach Kelly Wasilewski. The Sabres won the nonconference doubleheader 11-9 and 6-0.

     
  • Hampshire sweeps Round Lake Mar 21, 2015 7:13 PM
    Strong pitching. Check Solid hitting. Check Flawless fielding. Check Host Hampshire was dominant in sweeping a nonconference softball doubleheader from Round Lake 11-0 in five innings and 13-3 in six innings Saturday.

     
  • Ehemann’s quickly a hit for Mundelein Mar 21, 2015 11:05 PM
    Meghan Ehemann made the most of her first varsity softball at-bat. The sophomore designated player came to bat with a runner on base in the second inning and pulled a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field. Mundelein went on to beat host Trinity 4-3 at Triton College on Saturday.

  • Prospect produces extra-inning win Mar 20, 2015 9:26 PM
    Prospect’s softball team worked overtime on Thursday to improve to 2-0 with a 6-5 victory in eight innings over host Elgin. The Knights trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh when Casey Lenski led off with a line-drive home run to tie the game. In the top of the eighth, the Knights had two outs when Alyssa Cacini (3-for-4, walk, 2 runs) tripled to right-center. An errant relay throw allowed the freshman to score and Prospect came away with the hard-fought triumph.
