Two people, including a Stillman Valley High School cheerleader, were killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in rural Ogle County. Stillman Valley's football game against Richmond-Burton was postponed Friday night.
Geneva looks to beat 'unhappy' Richards

Richards ceded a 21-point lead and lost its season opener. "The last time either of those things happened it was the seventies, so we're not really happy around here right now," Richards coach Tony Sheehan said. They hope for a better showing against Geneva this week.
Richmond-Burton hangs on against Wauconda

Friday night's season-opening football game between host Wauconda and Richmond-Burton was all about the thrill of victory -- and the agony of defeat. The back and forth battle went down to the wire, but when all was said and done the visiting Rockets came through with a huge goal-line stand to secure an exciting 28-21 non-conference victory over Wauconda in a well-played game by both squads.
Big Northern East promises to be competitive again

Johnsburg made a big splash in its return to the Big Northern Conference last year, winning the East title with a perfect 7-0 record in the division, edging out 6-1 Burlington Central, which has a new coach this season in Jason Newburger. First-year Johnsburg coach Dan DeBoeuf believes his team again has the chops to compete for the division title but acknowledges there will be plenty of competition.
Richmond-Burton ends St. Edward's run

St. Edward girls soccer fans have been treated to phenomenal postseasons since 2011-12, when coach Tim Brieger's program began its string of four straight appearances in a Class 1A supersectional or better. It was a run that included a fourth-place trophy in 2011 and a third-place trophy last year. That streak of consecutive sectional titles came to an end Saturday. The feisty Green Wave battled back from a 2-goal deficit only to drop a 4-2 decision to Richmond-Burton in the Class 1A Westminster Christian sectional final.

Those familiar with the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers basketball team know they're synonymous with the term "Lob City" because of their rim-rocking dunks and jaw-dropping alley oops. So how in the world could Burlington Central's girls soccer team in a 3-0 Big Northern East win over Richmond-Burton Tuesday coin the same nickname if there's no such thing as an alley oop in the soccer world? Well there is now.
Sage, Lakes hang on against Richmond-Burton

The Lakes High School boys basketball fans took a collective sigh of relief before exploding with jubilation in Class 3A regional final action on their home court. Their Eagles had just survived a 3-point attempt that rimmed out, followed by a rebound and missed bunny at the buzzer that helped preserve a thrilling 38-36 victory over Richmond-Burton on Friday for the school's third regional title since opening its doors in 2004.

Burlington Central High School hosted Richmond-Burton for girls basketball action Monday, Feb. 9, in Burlington. Burlington's Sam Pryor scored her 1000th career point.
Pryor reaches 1,000 in Burlington C. win

Burlington Central junior Samantha Pryor had to endure 13 minutes of anxiety Monday night but the milestone finally came. Pryor hit a jumper in the lane with 2:19 to play in the third quarter, which put her over the 1,000-point mark for her career, and helped the Rockets to an eventual 50-31 win over Richmond-Burton on Rocket Hill.
