Gagliano’s 56-game streak ends Apr 22, 2013 12:00 AM
Marissa Gagliano is human after all. When Wheaton Academy's junior shortstop went 0-for-4 last Monday against Rosary, it marked the first time in her high school career she failed to reach base. Her streak had reached 56 straight games reaching base; Radford recruit Gagliano, hitting .545 on the season with a .591 on base percentage, 10 runs scored and 10 steals in six games this year, has hit safely in 48 of her 57 high school games.

To win the Upstate Eight Valley Conference baseball title, you have to get through Neuqua Valley. That’s exactly what Lake Park did on Saturday. Behind standout pitching performances from Christian Taugner and Mark Pall, the Lancers (11-2, 7-1) swept a key doubleheader against the Wildcats (9-5, 6-2) in Naperville. The three-game series concludes Tuesday in Roselle.

Loud and proud: Naperville Central rolls Apr 13, 2013 12:00 AM
Andy Nussbaum calmly sat in the dugout, all around him his Naperville Central Redhawks shouting and laughing in a sea of raucous celebration. "Believe it or not," Nussbaum smiled, "this used to be a quiet team." His Redhawks have plenty to talk about. No. 5 Naperville Central banged out 17 hits in winning the opener of a Saturday doubleheader with No. 15 Neuqua Valley 9-3, then batted around in a 6-run second inning to take the second game 6-4.

Naperville Central slows Neuqua Valley Apr 11, 2013 12:00 AM
Like a sprinter out of the starting blocks, the Neuqua Valley girls water polo team used its speed to its advantage at the start of Thursday’s match at Naperville Central. And the Wildcats went neck-and-neck with the Redhawks, ranked eighth in a state poll, and trailed just 5-4 after the first quarter. Naperville Central’s defense tightened up after that, however, and the Redhawks scored eight unanswered goals to win 13-4.

Piotrowski, a junior outfielder, certainly lived up to the billing Monday afternoon as he enjoyed a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate and helped ignite a 4-run sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie during the Wildcats' 7-5 Upstate Eight Conference victory over host Batavia (8-1, 3-1) ending the Bulldogs' 8-game winning streak.
