Palatine rallies past Conant Apr 22, 2013 12:00 AM
Tori Walzak's two-out double scored Lauren Logan in the top of the eighth inning and that proved to be the difference for Palatine's softball team which edged host Conant 4-3 on Monday in Hoffman Estates. After a leadoff single by Elisa Ambrose in the bottom of the eighth, Pirates senior ace Megan Hedstrom retired the next three batters, including a strikeout to end the game.Palatine improved to 6-4 and 2-0 in the Mid-Suburban West while Conant is 6-3 and 2-1.

Maine West had a strong beginning and a strong finish to each set in Wednesday's match against Niles North. Unfortunately for the Warriors, too many errors in the middle part of both games led to a Central Suburban North loss. The Vikings defeated visiting Maine West 25-20, 25-20 despite seeing the Warriors rally from way behind in both the first and second sets.

The area’s top home-run hitting softball team didn’t have a hit leave the park on Tuesday. But Barrington did leave the field with 13 hits and another win. Keenan Dolezal threw a 5-hitter as the Fillies posted an 8-1 victory over defending Mid-Suburban League East champion Elk Grove at the Fields of Dreams.

Teachers and administrators who don't report hazing like what happened at Maine West and Hoffman Estates high schools could themselves face criminal hazing charges under a plan approved by the Illinois House Friday. "They're going to be held just as responsible as the hazer," said state Rep. Marty Moylan, a Des Plaines Democrat.

New Trier edges Maine W. Apr 4, 2013 12:00 AM
Less than 10 months ago, Maine West won the biggest softball game in the program's history when it defeated New Trier in 10 innings for its first sectional crown. The two teams met again Thursday in Des Plaines in an early-season Central Suburban League crossover. Although the two teams didn't go to overtime this time, they played another entertaining game that went down to the wire. Allison Quigley, who suffered the loss in relief last June, was ready for the challenge this time and helped lead the Tevians to a 3-2 victory.

With three boys under the age of six, the coach who'd led the Warriors for the past nine seasons and who had been with the program for a total of 17 has opted to take a step back and devote more time to his home team.

The attorney representing the families of four Maine West High School students who say they were hazing victims is upset over Maine Township High School District 207's decision to represent the soccer coach who is in the middle of that scandal. Former head soccer coach Michael Divincenzo has agreed to a drop an appeal of his dismissal in return for the district hiring an attorney to represent him in the lawsuit, district officials said.

A soccer coach in the middle of the hazing scandal at Maine West High School has agreed to a drop a hearing to dispute his dismissal. In turn, the district will follow through with hiring an attorney to represent Michael Divincenzo, who has been suspended without pay while the district pursued dismissal. School board members announced the agreement in a statement read at Monday night's school board meeting.

Hedstrom, Haze lead Palatine hit parade Apr 1, 2013 12:00 AM
Palatine's softball team belted 12 hits and notched its first win of the season with a 12-6 win at Evanston on Monday in nonconference play. Pirates senior pitcher Megan Hedstrom struck out nine as the winning pitcher and was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI while teammate Jamie Haze was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Maine West's girls soccer team made it a sensational home opener, using a 3-goal second half explosion from Rita Lopez to top Wheeling 4-0 Monday in Des Plaines. Lopez doubled the Warriors' lead just five minutes after intermission, then helped open things up with another goal before competing her hat-trick in the 72nd minute to even Maine West's overall record at 2-2-0.

Perfect opener for Kraimer, Barrington Mar 30, 2013 12:00 AM
Considering the weather for the past three weeks, Saturday's mid 50-degree temperatures were perfect for area teams to start their softball seasons. And it was a perfect start for Barrington senior Cassidy Kraimer. The right-hander threw the first perfect game for the Fillies since sophomore Kiley Dolezal on April 25, 2009. Kraimer's gem on Saturday was a 16-0 five-inning victory over Lane Tech and completed the Fillies sweep in their own quad.
