The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music on the Fox and the Gail Borden Public Library will present "A Celebration of Music from the Golden Age of Cinema & Radio" Sept. 26 to Oct. 9, an exploration of the work of composer and conductor Bernard Herrmann, and filmmaker and actor Charlie Chaplin, brilliant contemporaries who left their marks in radio and film.
St. Peter cross country team looks strong heading into conference championship

After two weeks of tough training and racing, the St. Peter cross-country team should be tired and sluggish. This was hardly the case as both the 7/8th and 5/6th grade teams looked as solid and fresh as if they were well rested racing in the final conference meet at Seyller Park in Hampshire.

Garfield Farm Museum in Campton Hills is taking reservations from school groups for its annual Student Harvest Days Friday, Sept. 30. Children can connect with their rural heritage through period demonstrations of historic farm activities, such as candle dipping, rendering fat, flailing wheat, shocking and shelling corn, and making apple cider.
Female Volunteers Needed for Free Ultrasounds at College of DuPage

The Diagnostic Medical Imaging Sonography program at College of DuPage is seeking pregnant and non-pregnant volunteers to participate in free afternoon scanning sessions this fall. Volunteer appointments are available at 3, 3:30 and 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Dec. 7 (except Nov. 23 due to Thanksgiving break), and three openings are available for each time period. Pregnant volunteers can be in any stage, while non-pregnant female volunteers are needed for scans of pelvic anatomy, such as the uterus and ovaries.
