    The long wait is finally over for the Kaneland volleyball team. The Knights traveled to Yorkville Thursday night and avenged their only Northern Illinois Big XII East loss of the season, their 26-24, 25-14 victory giving Kaneland a share of the conference championship with the Foxes (29-2, 7-1) — and spoiling their Senior Night in the process.

Holubecki (4-1) lived up to his top billing Monday afternoon, allowing just 2 hits while racking up 9 strikeouts in 6 innings of work during the Knights’ 2-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East triumph over Yorkville (14-7, 4-2) in Maple Park.

But the Dukes vowed to change that this year. “We are really trying to come out fast this year,” said Charlie Rose, who had the Dukes running the court early and often. “We have a different mentality and we like to jump on storm early.” Rose and his mates did just that, bouncing out to a quick lead and getting past Rolling Meadows 56-40 Wednesday in the Ed Molitor Thanksgiving Classic on Wednesday in Palatine.

Except Aurora Central junior Phil Schuetz, who threw the pass to McEachern, saw it and still couldn’t believe it. And truth be told he wasn’t alone.
