    Wheaton co-op began its quest to win its third state title in a row by picking up three victories during Saturday’s quad in Glen Ellyn. The team pretty much picked up from where it left off at Lincoln-Way East last May, scoring 160.4 points, not too far off from the 161.65 that won state. Host Glenbard West posted an impressive 145.7 points in what was its first true meet of the season, while Fremd was third with a 129.6 and Addison Trail fourth with a 122.5.

Glenbard North claimed a hard-fought 78-69 victory over Wheaton North in Carol Stream to clinch a share of the program’s first DVC title in 23 years.

    Naperville North’s Michaela Robert knows what the girls gymnastics state experience is like, but Saturday caught the junior by surprise. Robert advanced out of Friday’s individual event preliminaries on vault and bars, ualifying for the individual finals for the first time. “It was a lot more intense than I was kind of expecting it to be,” she said. “I was not expecting all of the cameras and everything, but I just kept the right state of mind. I was able to be a bit more relaxed because I knew there wasn’t anything more after this on the season and I think that really helped me.”

Falcons junior Jake Heggeland provided it early in the second quarter. Heggeland’s baseline spin move and dunk electrified the Darien gymnasium, and Wheaton North held on for a 49-41 nonconference victory over the Hornets.
