  • Arrest warrant issued for former Wheaton North booster club president Jun 24, 2014 4:46 PM
    The former president of the Wheaton North High School Booster Club, who recently pleaded guilty to stealing more than $11,000 from the organization, is in trouble with the law again. DuPage Judge Daniel Guerin on Tuesday signed a $50,000 bond arrest warrant for Dorothy “Dee” Horky, 58, of Carol Stream after she failed to attend her second consecutive court date related to her impending sentencing. When she is sentenced, she faces a maximum of seven years in prison for the thefts.

    Ben Szot wasn’t on the Wheaton co-op boys gymnastics team last year. David MacDonald was in a hospital less than a month ago. Austin Peabody had never done gymnastics four years ago. All that mattered was that the three of them were at Hinsdale Central on Friday night along with their teammates for the IHSA boys gymnastics team and all-around championships. Behind MacDonald winning his second straight all-around title with a 56.1, and fellow senior Ethan Sansone placing second with a 54.2, Wheaton co-op became the first team since Stevenson (2002-04) to win three consecutive state championships.

    Wheaton Warrenville South and Wheaton North high schools are hosting their annual Relay for Life event from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday on the Wheaton North football field. At least 550 students are expected to participate in the event this year, which has historically raised around $90,000 annually. "They love that there is a place to go where they are fighting cancer," said Keagan Castro, volunteer sponsor of Wheaton Warrenville South's High Schools Against Cancer Club.

    Naperville Central all-state hurdler Michael Jopes couldn’t quite catch Lake Park standout Antonio Shenault in the 110-meter hurdles, but he still managed to have a great Friday night at the DuPage County boys track meet in Naperville. Jopes ran a personal-best time of 39.08 to win the 300 low hurdles, and he took a solid second to Shenault in the high hurdles. After placing at state last year in both the 300 hurdles and the 1,600 relay, Jopes appears ready for another postseason charge this spring.

    The past few days had been rough for the Naperville North softbal team, with four consecutive losses, including defeats by Naperville Central and Glenbard North by just 2 runs. A trip to Benedictine University in Lisle for a game under the lights Thursday night was just what the Huskies needed. They belted out 12 hits and defeated Wheaton North 10-5.
