The schedules of the sports teams that make their homes outdoors in the spring have been turned upside down over the last month. First it was the snow and extreme cold that cancelled games and practices and kept teams inside. Now, it’s this relentless rain that seems to be on the forecast well into next week.

"It was a very, very epic game," Antioch coach Anthony Rocco said after his squad fell to 3-1. "I've never seen a game like that. It was one great play after another."

    Wauconda' softball team had to rally to keep its winning streak alive Tuesday. Maggie LePage's 2-run double was the key blow in a 5-run bottom of the sixth, as Wauconda pulled out a 7-6 win over visiting Grant in North Suburban Prairie Division action.

    Outside — at last — and the Wauconda softball team took full advantage of the opportunity Saturday in Elgin. The Bulldogs pounded out 32 hits and got solid pitching and defense all day as they swept a nonconference doubleheader from Larkin, 13-4 and 17-2.

The Wauconda girls softball team decided that if you can't beat Mother Nature, then move indoors. The Bulldogs enjoyed climate-controlled conditions under The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont on Friday afternoon — but Marengo spoiled the outcome with a 5-2 season-opening victory.
