  • Bell-LaSota, Malay for St. Charles council Mar 29, 2011 3:01 PM
There are two people running for alderman that are opposed to construction of the Rod Gate bridge in St. Charles. They both show independent thought concerning the Red Gate issue instead of the “rubber stamp” appearance of the current city council. For this reason, the River Bend Community Group is endorsing Vanessa Bell-LaSota for 3rd Ward Alderman and Kim Malay for 5th Ward Alderman.

  • Time for Dist. 5 to retire Jack Wagner Mar 14, 2011 12:01 AM
I want to share an experience I recently had with Jack Wagner. It was not a pleasant one. When I learned that someone was running against Mr. Wagner, I checked out his website and decided I liked what Kollin Kozlowski had to say. I contacted him and told him he could put a sign in my front yard. On Saturday, Feb. 12, my doorbell rang. When I answered, I saw that it was Mr. Wagner. He said he noticed I had his opponent’s signs in my front yard and asked what I thought he had done wrong. I pointed to the three homes to the west of my home. He told me he had fixed that. I told him that he and the village had allowed it to happen in the first place. When he told me he couldn’t stop someone from buying a house, I told him I agreed with that and then told him that he and the village were the ones who approved the variances that allowed the two lots to be divided into four. I also told him that they also allowed the builder to construct a new home before demolishing the old one; this had been part of the agreement. I said: “You remind me of many of our members in Congress; too many terms served; time to retire.” No one is so good and well-qualified to deserve public service for 24 years and expect four more.
