  • St. Charles East wins meet against ‘best friends’ Sep 25, 2014 10:37 PM
Rarely does the atmosphere for a swimming dual meet reach the noise level of Thursday’s St. Charles North-St. Charles East girls encounter at East’s Norris Center pool. In fact, the Saints and North Stars don’t always generate the cacophony their pink-clad fans created on a night dedicated to swimming and also in support of the fight against breast cancer. In the pool, St. Charles East won 103-82, but a variety of fundraising efforts netted more than $2,000, said St. Charles East coach Joe Cabel.

  • Batavia sweeps singles to knock off St. Charles North Sep 25, 2014 10:20 PM
It seems to be the season of the 5-2 girls tennis dual meet scores in the Upstate Eight Conference River Division. After both Batavia and St. Charles North dropped recent 5-2 decisions to conference leader Geneva, the teams hooked up in a head-to-head battle of their own Thursday afternoon with the hopes of staying within striking distance of the Vikings.

  • Even with 4-0 record, Geneva sees room for improvement Sep 23, 2014 9:53 AM
I have to admit that I have always liked weather. When I was younger, I wanted to be a meteorologist — that is, until I found out how many math and science courses I would have to take in order to become one.

  • Krage, St. Charles North slam Batavia Sep 23, 2014 9:29 PM
St. Charles North volleyball star Daley Krage already removed a big weight off her shoulders by committing to Northwestern before her junior season. Any chance she would coast a little during the next two high school seasons? No way says her coach Lindsey Hawkins.

  • Geneva topples St. Charles North in River showdown Sep 20, 2014 6:01 AM

  • Guyett makes a splash as Barrington tops St. Charles North Sep 20, 2014 3:36 PM
It was worth the wait for standout St. Charles North freshman Audrey Guyett. Coach Rob Rooney had gone to this point of the girls swimming season without entering her in best race, the 500-yard freestyle. So a Saturday matchup at Barrington against the two-time defending high school state champ in that race, Fillies junior Kirsten Jacobsen, figured to provide a great test. Consider it passed with flying colors by Guyett, who took control a little past the race’s midpoint and won in 4:57.87, just a few seconds off the pool record. Jacobsen finished in 5:01.69, her best time so far this season. Earlier, Guyett nipped Jacobsen in a terrific 200 free race, winning by a hundredth of a second in 1:53.61.

  • Geneva rebounds to win decisively Sep 16, 2014 10:03 PM
The Geneva uprising was turned into an all-out revolution Tuesday night in St. Charles. The Vikings, seeking to extend their season-long girls volleyball winning streak to 12 matches, were victimized by St. Charles North with a first-game opening run of 20-9. Geneva rallied, closing to within 2 points, only to fall short. But the momentum had clearly shifted, and the Vikings’ resilience against a relatively youthful St. Charles North team manifested itself in the form of Geneva scoring 62 of the last 92 points in its 21-25, 25-13, 25-14 Upstate Eight Conference River victory.
