  • Conway Farms to host 2015 BMW Championship May 29, 2014 4:50 PM
    After earning the coveted “Tournament of the Year” Award in 2013 from the PGA Tour, Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest was rewarded Thursday when it was named as host of the 2015 BMW Championship. The 2013 BMW Championship, which raised more than $2.3 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation, attracted more than 130,000 spectators. Lake County officials also credit it with an economic impact of more than $30 million.

    Illinois and Northwestern have become perennial contenders for the men’s and women’s golf titles in the Big Ten Conference, and that’ll again be the case when collegiate postseason play begins this weekend. The NU women shared last year’s Big Ten title and are the highest-ranked conference team (No. 12) in the national polls. Last year coach Emily Fletcher’s team shared the title with Purdue, giving NU its first Big Ten crown in women’s golf. This year’s team doesn’t have any seniors and will defend on a different course starting on Friday.

    Forty teams competed at the fourth annual Carpentersville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4790 dodgeball tournament at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville on Saturday afternoon. Teams comprised of six players took to four courts as 10 games were played simultaneously from 12 to 5 p.m., with winners advancing, hoping to reach the grand championship game.

  • Andrew Weibrecht takes silver, Norway wins super-G race Feb 16, 2014 8:50 AM
    A Norwegian skier earned his country’s fourth consecutive Olympic title in men’s super-G. Kjetil Jansrud continued Norway’s dominance in the Alpine skiing event, outracing two Americans and a Canadian for the Scandinavian country’s fifth super-G gold in the past seven games. Andrew Weibrecht of the U.S. earned the silver medal with a time that was less just 0.3 seconds slower than Jansrud’s, while American teammate Bode Miller and Jan Hudec of Canada tied for bronze.
