    Bartlett Trustee Frank Napolitano decided against running for re-election to the post he accepted in 2009 in favor of a bid for the Elgin Area School District U-46 school board. Voters elected him to the new role Tuesday night, along with Veronica Noland and incumbent board president Donna Smith. Napolitano labels himself a conservative with an eye toward fiscal responsibility and said shifting gears to education is giving him oversight of a far larger budget. Noland's focus is less on finance, more on communication as she looks toward her first term.

     
  • Incumbents and Brook win in Maine Elementary District 63 Apr 10, 2013 12:25 AM
    Three incumbents and newcomer Alexandra Brook won 4-year terms on the East Maine Elementary District 63 board Tuesday. Sheila Urban, who has been on the board since 2009, received 1,948 votes to be the top vote-getter. Brook received 1,672 votes; Krystal Zec, who became a board member last year, took 1,669 votes; and Walter Gluzkin, who joined the board in 2008, garnered 1,619 votes.

    With 333 of 341 precincts counted, unofficial vote totals showed incumbents Ann Tennes and Joan DiLeonardi won re-election to the Oakton Community College board Tuesday, receiving 22,475 and 20,889 votes, respectively.

    Experience was the lesson voters taught Tuesday as incumbents swept the election race for the Round Lake Area Unit District 116 school board. With all 18 precincts reporting, board members Ann Welk, Kevin Daniels and Margaret “Peg” Larson won three, 4-year seats with 739, 712 and 699 votes, according to unofficial tallies. Challengers Gema Mariscal and Kevin Devera garnered 519 and 487 votes, respectively.

    Diamond Lake School District 76 voters on Tuesday selected a mix of experience to represent them on the school board. Incumbents Keith Loeffler and Laura Vogt and newcomer Adam B. Plummer won 4-year terms on the board, according to Lake County clerk’s office.

    Despite being mired in controversy, incumbent school board President Wayne Sobczak held onto his seat on the Antioch-Lake Villa High School District 117 board Tuesday. With all 33 precincts counted, Sobczak collected 2,115 votes, making him the second top vote-getter behind fellow incumbent board member Ron Vickers.

     
  • Incumbents win in District 59 school race Apr 9, 2013 9:41 PM
    Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 school board incumbents Barbara Somogyi and Seana McPherson won two, 2-year terms on the board with challenger John Strzelecki trailing a few hundred votes behind. With all 39 precincts counted, unofficial vote totals show Somogyi garnered 1,634 votes, McPherson received 1,610 votes and Strzelecki earned 1,278 votes.

     
  • Newcomers take all seats in Mundelein Dist. 120 Apr 9, 2013 11:56 PM
    Incumbent Robert A. Paliani, who campaigned on completing “unfinished business,” lost his bid for re-election to the Mundelein High School District 120 board on Tuesday. With all 32 precincts accounted for as well as early voting and mail-in ballots counted, unofficial results indicate that four newcomers will take spots on the board.

    The Vernon Hills-based Hawthorn District 73 board will have a fresh look with three political newcomers winning seats Tuesday. Louis E. Gatta, Jeanne Engelkemeir, and Ghita Mueller swept to victory.

    It will be déjà vu in Grayslake High School District 127 as voters re-elected two incumbents and voted a former board member back into office. With all 40 precincts reporting plus mail-in and early voting ballots, unofficial results show incumbents Russell Chamberlin and Suzanne Swanson and former board member Douglas Nerge won the race for three 4-year seats.

     
  • Klimkowicz, Scharringhausen and LeFevre win Dist. 211 race Apr 10, 2013 12:39 AM
    A challenger touting the need for strategic planning and fiscal restraint will take his seat on the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board. With 144 of 149 precincts reporting, unofficial results show Mike Scharringhausen received 6,435 votes. Joining him were incumbents Anna Klimkowicz and Robert LeFevre with 6,851 votes and 5,210 votes.

    Two incumbents and two newcomers have earned seats on the Glenbard High School District 87 school board, according to unofficial totals. With all precincts reporting, voters on Tuesday selected current board members Bob Friend and Rich Heim for new 4-year terms, and elected Judith Weinstock and Jennifer Jendras for the first time.

     
  • Lone incumbent, 3 others win Dist. 3 seats Apr 9, 2013 11:38 PM
    The race for the Fox River Grove Elementary District 3 school board was wide open, with just one incumbent and a group of four challengers seeking four open seats. Stephen Pickering retained his seat by earning 22 percent of the vote. He will be joined by newcomers Patrick Riley, Timothy Hatfield and Patrick Wall.
