  • Rory McIlroy a marked man at Ryder Cup Sep 26, 2012 8:29 PM
There's a new sheriff in town this week at Medinah Country Club and he goes by the name of Rory McIlroy. Four victories in 2012, including the PGA Championship and a pair of wins during the FedEx Cup playoffs, plus coming into the week as the world's No. 1 ranked golfer will do that to a guy. "This week I'm not the No. 1 player in the world; I'm one person on a 12-man team, and that's it," McIlroy said Wednesday morning.

  • Quick start crucial to winning Ryder Cup Sep 28, 2012 7:42 AM
The Super Bowl of golf is nearly here, the first practice only hours away and Team USA is looking at a significant home-course advantage. The U.S. is favored to win even though Europe has taken nine of the last 13 Ryder Cups after winning in Wales by a point in 2010. So does Medinah offer the U.S. a 1-point advantage? Definitely. But will it be enough to overcome Team USA's competitive issues? Maybe.

  • Europe’s Donald feels quite at home in Chicago Sep 25, 2012 7:06 PM
It’s difficult to imagine Luke Donald drawing hecklers when the 39th Ryder Cup matches tee off on Friday at Medinah Country Club. But it could happen. A former NCAA champion for Northwestern, Donald has been a class act since establishing residence in Chicago 15 years ago. This week, though, U.S. golf fans will view Donald as part of the enemy. He’s a key member of the 12-man European team that will try to beat the U.S. in the biennial competition for the fifth time in six tries.

  • Olazabal surprised Mahan not on U.S. Ryder team Sep 5, 2012 4:27 PM
Hunter Mahan's absence from the U.S. Ryder Cup team surprised European captain Jose Maria Olazabal. Olazabal, in Hilversum getting ready for this week's Dutch Open, was sure Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk would receive wild cards. U.S. captain Davis Love III gave the other two to Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker, passing over Mahan, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour this year and part of the last five Ryder Cup teams.

  • Europe’s Ryder Cup team loaded with experience Aug 28, 2012 6:19 PM
If Ryder Cup experience means anything the U.S. team will be in big trouble when the biennial matches come to Medinah Country Club for their 39th staging beginning Sept. 25. Europe's 12-man squad is loaded with veterans, to say nothing of talent.

GLENEAGLES, Scotland — European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal said Monday that picking Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium — along with England's Ian Poulter — as his wild-card selections is not a gamble. The 32-year-old Poulter will be competing in his fourth Ryder Cup since making his debut in 2004 while Colsaerts will be playing in his first and is the only rookie on Olazabal's squad.
