    The Marmion-Rosary Band, Marmion-Rosary Jazz Ensemble, the Marmion-Rosary Percussion Ensemble and Marmion Chorus present its Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. Admission is free, with freewill donations will be accepted. The Marmion Choir will feature a variety of Christmas selections, including “Angels We Have Heard On High,” “The Hands that First Held Mary’s Child,” “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night” and “O, Holy Night.”

The Upstate Eight Conference River Division girls basketball race came down to the final day of the season a year ago, Batavia and Geneva winning their games to share the championship. Batavia’s co-title was the most the Vikings have been pushed since Geneva joined the Upstate Eight. They have owned the area’s bragging rights lately, but to stay on top this year they are going to have to fend off several squads hoping to take their place. That starts with their first conference game of the year Thursday night and a trip to St. Charles North.

    Even if West Aurora’s press didn’t force a single turnover Monday night against Rosary, Blackhawks coach Connie Siljendahl knew it would work to her advantage by forcing the Royals to play at a faster pace. West’s press did just that, and it also was awfully effective early at rattling the Royals. West Aurora forced 11 turnovers in the opening quarter, quickly jumped ahead 6-0 and never led by less than 5 points the rest of the way in a 48-36 victory between the neighboring schools.

When Megan Conlin went down with a knee injury last year, Drozdowski shifted from the wing to become an undersized power forward. Fast forward to the start of Rosary’s season this winter. With four-year standout Quincy Kellett out for their season-opening tournament at IMSA, Drozdowski is again changing positions for the good of the team — this time to point guard. Drozdowski showed her versatility Thursday, scoring a game-high 19 points with 4 steals in Rosary’s 51-46 victory over Indian Creek.

Swimming’s postseason starts with Saturday’s sectional meets and continues through the Nov. 21-22 state meet at Evanston.
