Gritty Galvin earns third straight state tourney berth
May 22, 2015 10:53 PM - Sometimes a single tennis match is just one blip among a multitude of matchups during the season. At other times, it can change the course of the rest of the season. Such as in the Deerfield sectional, with its all-star singles and doubles cast. Play began at 1 p.m. Friday, and almost six and a half hours later, Mack Galvin won a nearly three-hour marathon epic over Nick Zazove of Highland Park to advance into the state tournament next weekend, earning himself a third consecutive trip. The Rolling Meadows junior outlasted Zazove, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5) when it looked as though he was down and nearly out. The Mid-Suburban League three-time champ had to rebound from a second-set ankle injury to survive this thriller.
