  • The hits keeps coming for Rolling Meadows Dec 19, 2014 11:30 PM
    At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the records keep breaking for Rolling Meadows. Freshman Josh Dellorto updated a mark from 2002 with his victory in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday as the host Mustangs topped Wheeling 112-74. Dellorto finished the 200 in 1:48.54 and also won the 500 free (5:03.73), along with having legs on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.

     
  • Prospect produces a win at Wheeling Dec 20, 2014 12:40 AM
    Prospect’s perfect girls basketball season continued on Friday night as the Knights captured a 44-33 victory on the road at Wheeling. Senior Taylor Will led all scorers with 20 points while classmate Catherine Sherwood chipped in 13 and junior Nikki Matters 10.

     
  • Toughness, finesse carry Prospect Dec 19, 2014 10:42 PM
    Prospect used some on-court toughness and some finesse in beating Wheeling 48-40 at the the Jean Walker Field House in Mt. Prospect on Friday night. The Knights’ Grant Miller, whose nickname is Bulldog, provided the toughness. And sophomore Frankie Mack had the finesse in the Mid-Suburban East victory.

     
  • Buffalo Grove’s Savage rolls 300 game Dec 17, 2014 9:52 PM
    In 40-plus years of Mid-Suburban League girls bowling, there had been only six 300 games thrown until the gem last week by Karsyn Burgess of Wheeling put the total at 7. Now, make it 8. Buffalo Grove junior Joanne Savage stole the spotlight Wednesday, firing her first-ever 300 in the second game of her match against, of all teams, the Wildcats.

    Grayslake North sophomore Sidney Lovitsch has earned Daily Herald girls basketball MVP honors for her recent performances in victories over Woodstock and Crystal Lake Central.

    Television. Birthday. Dialing long distance. So what do the above have to do with undefeated Prospect posting a 65-32 win over St. Viator at the Jean Walker Field House on Tuesday night? Senior Taylor Will, playing her first game since appearing on Comcast SportsNet television over the weekend, scored a game-high 19 points and Knights freshman guard Emily Frasco celebrated her 15th birthday with one of Prospect’s nine season-high nine 3-pointers. It all added up to a second straight season in which the Knights have begun 8-0.

     
  • Schaumburg has a defensive day to remember Dec 16, 2014 10:16 PM
    After his team’s loss to Oak Park on Saturday, new Schaumburg coach Marty Manning said that he would prefer his team to stay away from Saturday games in the future. “We just didn’t have much energy Saturday,” Manning said before his team tipped off against Prospect on Tuesday night. “It’s tough playing back-to-back nights. I never liked it when I played. We will get to a Tuesday-Friday schedule next season because that’s what you play in the state playoffs and I want our kids ready for that.” Schaumburg seemed plenty ready Tuesday. They forced turnovers at the beginning and down the stretch to post a 47-40 victory over the Knights.

     
  • Fab four smashes relay record in Meadows’ victory Dec 13, 2014 8:36 PM
    The record-board rearranging continued for Rolling Meadows’ boys swimming team on Saturday. Probably the most important change didn’t have anything to do with time, but rather final placement. Never before in coach Monika Chiappetta’s 17 years had the Mustangs taken top team honors in the Wild Stallion Jamboree. But there was Rolling Meadows, 3 points ahead of defending Mid-Suburban East champ Prospect on Saturday, and well ahead of strong teams from Hersey, Cary-Grove and Lane Tech.

     
  • Larock lifts Prospect at Conant Dec 13, 2014 8:24 PM
    Prospect coach Randy Smith was effusive in his praise of senior Maddie Larock, and who could blame him after her performance Saturday at the Conant girls gymnastics invitational? Larock, in a tremendous effort, helped lead the Knights to an upset win and the first place trophy in the 36th annual meet in Hoffman Estates. The senior finished second on the uneven parallel bars event and tied for second on balance beam as Prospect (108.52) edged Carmel (108.45) for the title.

     
  • Prospect stays hot against Buffalo Grove Dec 13, 2014 12:37 AM
    Buffalo Grove wasn’t able to slow Prospect’s hot streak. The host Knights earned a 52-36 victory over the Bison on Friday, claiming their third straight victory and remaining perfect in the Mid-Suburban East at 2-0. Kyle Beyak (14 points), Patryk Niemiec (10 points, 8 rebounds) and Grant Miller (8 points, 4 assists) led a balanced scoring attack for the Knights.

     
  • Prospect clears key MSL East test against Hersey Dec 12, 2014 10:25 PM
    Depth matters in team swimming. A lot. The Hersey boys swim team is building it. Prospect already has it, which was the main reason it prevailed 106.5-79.5 in Friday’s Mid-Suburban East dual-meet clash at Wheeling.

     
  • Prospect stays perfect by topping Buffalo Grove Dec 11, 2014 11:30 PM
    Prospect won its first Mid-Suburban East game last week with only three players scoring against an undefeated Hersey team. Going up against another undefeated team in its second conference game on Thursday night, the Knights were hoping for a little more offensive balance. Sure enough, they doubled their fun. This time, six girls made it into the scoring column as Prospect handed visiting Buffalo Grove its first loss, 45-32, at the Jean Walker Field House. Despite picking up her third foul with two minutes left in the first half and her fourth with 4:15 left in the third, senior Catherine Sherwood led the ever-so-balanced Knights with 10 points. Next came Haley Will (8), Nikki Matters (8), Taylor Will (7), Brenda Kendziera (7) and Clare O’Carroll (5).

     
  • Prospect stages ‘Air Guitar High’ this weekend Dec 11, 2014 5:26 PM
    Prospect High School is presenting its winter play, “Air Guitar High,” this week on the school’s main stage at 801 W. Kensington Road in Mount Prospect. Dozens of students from Prospect’s theater department have worked on the production, which runs through Saturday, Dec. 13, with performances starting at 7 p.m.

     
  • Prospect second at St. Viator’s invite Dec 10, 2014 11:36 PM
    St. Ignatius took top honors in the five-team St. Viator boys swimming invitational, but there was plenty for second-place Prospect and the third-place host Lions to be pleased with on Wednesday. The Wolfpack was able to win all three relays to amass 303 points, with Prospect at 250 and St. Viator at 203.

    Prospect senior Taylor Will has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her record-breaking role in a girls basketball victory over Hersey last week.

     
  • Barrington, Prospect finish 2-3 at Galatte invite Dec 6, 2014 9:55 PM
    Lincoln Way Co-Op won the Al Galatte invitational at Rolling Meadows, with Barrington second and Prospect third thanks to some stellar performances. The Fillies’ Molly Blanke captured vault honors with a 9.35 and teammate Kseniya Kisleva won the uneven bars. Prospect junior Megan Donner finished second on floor, just edged out by Sammi Lococo of Carmel.

     
  • Poised Prospect withstands Fremd charge to hand Vikings their first loss Dec 6, 2014 9:52 PM
    Prospect senior guard Kyle Beyak wasted no time when asked the key to his team handing Fremd its first loss in Saturday’s night’s Mid-Suburban League boys basketball crossover match at the Jean Walker Field. “The key was definitely Friday night at Hersey,” said Beyak, referring to the Knights’ 53-37 win in Arlington Heights that broke a three-game losing streak. “That gave us the momentum and a lot of confidence for this game.” The Knights showed that confidence especially at the end Saturday, as Fremd recovered from a 16-point deficit to close to within 3 points early in the fourth quarter. But the poised Knights held their ground and left with a 53-47 triumph that evened their record to 3-3.

     
  • Fourth straight win for Schaumburg Dec 6, 2014 11:44 PM
    After starting the season with a pair of losses, Schaumburg’s boys basketball has found the winning groove. The Saxons worked overtime on Saturday at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights before posting a 59-54 victory over Hersey. Brendan Parker (18 points), Jason Schoo (13) and Charlie Quilco (10) weer top scorers for Schaumburg (4-2). Payton Haas and Joseph Coffaro each scored 18 points to pace Hersey (3-3).

     
  • Prospect puts it all together against Hersey Dec 6, 2014 12:33 AM
    Hersey and Prospect entered Friday night’s boys basketball games with totally different starts to their season, as the Huskies hosted the Mid-Suburban League East bout. After dealing with three straight losses that were all by less than 4 points, Prospect (2-3, 1-0) stunned Hersey and the Huskies’ faithful with a 53-37 lopsided victory.
