    A 37-year-old Illinois man was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without parole for the murder of a pregnant woman and her fetus in Wisconsin. Brian Cooper of Plainfield was sentenced in Door County Circuit Court Thursday. He was found guilty in May of two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, the Door County Advocate reported.

    Lake Forest Hospital's emergency room has launched an online check-in system for patients with nonlife-threatening illnesses. Beginning July 1, patients were able to complete online forms to start the check-in process and let ER staff know when to expect them. The online check-in started at its related Northwestern Grayslake Emergency Center last summer, said spokeswoman Kelly Klopp.

    The National Weather Service is now reporting five tornadoes touched down in Illinois during a storm that dumped heavy rain as it swept across the state. The weather service confirmed a tornado touched down in Plainfield, causing some damage.

We were told pointedly “by the natives” that since we resided south of 75th, we were not “true Napervillians.” In subsequent years, as Naperville rapidly grew, the “center of town,” so to speak, shifted to south of 75th Street, a fact that the “natives” still refused to acknowledge.

Hamza Ali Ben Ali, 31, of Plainfield, was found guilty during a Wednesday bench trial of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license.

  • Illinois sites named to national historic register Feb 14, 2014 4:41 PM
    More than two dozen Illinois buildings and downtown districts have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Twenty-three buildings and 11 historic districts were added to the register in 2013, according to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. They include everything from a mausoleum in South suburban Beecher and an East. St. Louis hotel to historic districts in Galena and Plainfield and a Chicago furniture factory. Inclusion on the list means properties are deemed worthy of preservation and makes them eligible for financial incentives. “(It) really drives home what a wonderful legacy we enjoy in Illinois,” said Amy Martin, who is the director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. “Preserving historic buildings and districts helps communities stay vibrant.” The National Park Service added the sites to the register based on recommendations from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. Thousands of Illinois sites, representing each of the state’s 102 counties, are on the register. Preservationists say saving historic sites is important to communities.

    Moving up a class for the state wrestling tournaments has been a godsend for Marmion. The defending Class 3A team runners-up, the Cadets were in a league of their own at the Waubonsie Valley individual regional Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Crowning all but one of their 11 championship finalists, the Cadets dominated the largely Aurora and Naperville field by almost 140 points. Waubonsie Valley and Wheaton Warrenville South combined for 13 qualifiers to the Hinsdale Central sectional next week in placing a distant second and third, respectively.
