  • Former state lawmaker David Regner dies Dec 18, 2013 6:29 PM
    Former Republican state lawmaker and Palatine Township supervisor David Regner died Tuesday. Regner was 82 and battling a rare form of skin cancer. After losing two wives to cancer, Regner in 2011 donated more than $100,000 to Northwest Community Hospital to help pay for renovations to make waiting rooms more welcoming.

    People close to him say that aside from his family, Robert Bergman's life was defined by an immense interest in politics and history. “He's always been a die-hard Republican his entire life,” said his daughter, Jessica Bergman. “He was just very committed to his family and committed to politics and righting wrongs and standing up for what he believed in." The former state representative died Friday at 65.

    More than 100 voters turned out last week when the Palatine Township Republican Organization (PTRO) held an endorsement session for contested races across the state. For governor, Bruce Rauner was endorsed after receiving 65 percent of the vote. Dan Rutherford received 20 percent, Kirk Dillard 11 percent and Bill Brady 4 percent.

     
  • Matt Flamm seeking Palatine Township committeeman post Nov 26, 2013 12:05 PM
    Matt Flamm, a former state representative candidate and organizer for President Barack Obama’s campaigns, will seek a Palatine Township Democratic Committeeman seat in next year’s election, he announced this week. Flamm filed his nominating papers Monday with the Cook County Clerk. He is running to succeed incumbent Committeeman Sue Walton, who is not seeking re-election.

    The campaign of Republican gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard is accusing fellow GOP candidate Bruce Rauner of “pay-to-play” politics as a result of an endorsement Rauner won this week from the Palatine Township Republican Organization. Rauner’s campaign and Palatine Township GOP Committeeman Aaron Del Mar flatly deny the charges of “pay-to-play.”

    Palatine’s Winston Campus Elementary has done a “spooktacular” job of embracing the Halloween spirit while serving others. The school’s Make a Difference Club members want to make a difference in their school and community as well as nationally, and they've done so by collecting costumes for those in need and by gathering leftover Halloween candy for soliders.

    The Palatine Township Senior Center’s “Get Wild About Girls Night Out” fundraiser raised a record $10,000 the benefit the center this year, organization officials said. More than 230 girlfriends, mothers and daughters enjoyed great food, drinks, shopping, and getting pampered at the 8th annual edition of the fundraiser, held at Durty Nellie’s in downtown Palatine.

     
  • Rolling Meadows again postpones Meacham Road decision Oct 22, 2013 4:03 PM
    A decision on the controversial widening of Meacham Road in Rolling Meadows has been put off until December. Meanwhile, the Rolling Meadows city council has asked the staff to once again survey area residents, talk to Palatine Township about potentially contributing financially and talk to Schaumburg, which also has land along the road.

  • No injuries in Palatine restaurant blaze Sep 9, 2013 11:50 AM
    No one was injured in an early morning grease fire at an Arby's Restaurant in Palatine, authorities said. Palatine Fire Deputy Chief Bill Gabrenya said a neighboring business of the Arby's on 100 block of Northwest Highway saw smoke inside the building at 5 a.m. Monday morning.
