Early voting in primary election continues through Feb. 23 Feb 11, 2013 12:00 AM
Early voting for the Feb. 26 primary election began Monday and continues through Saturday, Feb. 23. In the Northwest suburbs, a Republican primary will take place in Palatine Township for the offices of supervisor, trustee, clerk and highway commissioner. In Elgin, a nonpartisan primary will whittle down a field of nine people running for a single 2-year council seat.

Three suburbanites honored by Cook County police for stopping DUI suspect Feb 8, 2013 12:00 AM
Three suburban men have been honored by the Cook County sheriff’s office for stopping a DUI suspect from leaving after a crash. Lake Zurich resident Anthony Schaar, Kildeer resident John Schroeder and Fox River Grove resident Thomas Tarasiuk have been given the sheriff’s Outstanding Citizen Award for their actions on Nov. 4, 2012.

Food drive Saturday for Palatine Food Pantry Dec 20, 2012 12:00 AM
A food drive benefiting the Palatine Food Pantry will take place on Saturday, Dec. 22 during the Palatine and Fremd boys feeder basketball program games at Palatine High School, 1111 North Rohlwing Road.Anyone coming to the games is asked to bring nonperishable items to help residents in need living within Palatine Township boundaries.

Palatine center's volunteers make Day of Giving possibleDec 10, 2012 12:00 AM
The annual Day of Giving last month at the Palatine Opportunity Center helped nearly 1,500 people from Palatine Township find warm clothing, toys and even refurbished bicycles. It all happens because of a dedicated group of volunteers, called Palatine Assisting Through Hope. "It's our volunteers who make this possible," says Rich Tyack of Palatine, who works behind the scenes to mobilize people from the community.

Exactly who the winners will face in the general election remains unclear, however, with the Democrats declining to disclose their candidates until later.

Mariano’s makes donation to Palatine Twp. Food Pantry Nov 19, 2012 12:00 AM
A partnership between the Downtown Palatine Street Fest and Mariano's Fresh Market has resulted in a donation to the Palatine Township Food Pantry. Mariano's Store Director Larry Fugate on Friday presented a $1,250 check to the food pantry, which assists about 300 families each month.
