  • Palatine Rural Fire District asking for tax increase Feb 20, 2014 7:03 PM
    The head of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District said a drop in local property values is the reason the district is asking for a .05 percent tax hike on the ballot March 18. “It was a difficult decision by the board to ask the voters for a tax increase and we would not be doing it if we didn’t need it,” said fire Chief Hank Clemmensen.

    Former Republican state lawmaker and Palatine Township supervisor David Regner died Tuesday. Regner was 82 and battling a rare form of skin cancer. After losing two wives to cancer, Regner in 2011 donated more than $100,000 to Northwest Community Hospital to help pay for renovations to make waiting rooms more welcoming.

    People close to him say that aside from his family, Robert Bergman's life was defined by an immense interest in politics and history. “He's always been a die-hard Republican his entire life,” said his daughter, Jessica Bergman. “He was just very committed to his family and committed to politics and righting wrongs and standing up for what he believed in." The former state representative died Friday at 65.

    Matt Flamm, a former state representative candidate and organizer for President Barack Obama’s campaigns, will seek a Palatine Township Democratic Committeeman seat in next year’s election, he announced this week. Flamm filed his nominating papers Monday with the Cook County Clerk. He is running to succeed incumbent Committeeman Sue Walton, who is not seeking re-election.
