Property owners in the northern Cook County suburbs can expect an average increase of about $155 on their property tax bills in the coming year, Cook County Clerk David Orr reports. Wheeling residents could see a much bigger increase, while some in Mount Prospect could see tax reductions.

At its American History Luncheon, the Twenty-first Star Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was pleased to honor students of Maine East, Maine South, Maine West, Niles North and Niles West High Schools as their "Outstanding American History Scholars" and "DAR Good Citizens."
10 area townships accepting Paint-A-Thon applicants

Applications are currently being accepted for the 26th Annual Community Paint-A-Thon on Saturday, Sept. 7. Under the program, volunteer teams are matched to do the scraping, priming and painting of eligible houses for free.

Elected officials in 31 suburban townships combined to make $661,387 more this year than they did in 2009. In many cases, they gave themselves the raises -- and they're getting ready to do it again.

"[title of show]" is a fun and zippy modern-day show about two friends' process of writing a Broadway musical. This ground-up tale of success and self-determination is now receiving its Chicago-area debut at Northlight Theatre in Skokie.

Seniors Fishing Derby winners announced

The 11th Annual Bob Lindstrom Memorial Fishing Derby was held on Saturday, Aug. 7, at Lindy's Landings on Bangs Lake in Wauconda. Over 42 seniors were taken out for a morning of fishing on 11 boats with volunteer captains.
