Meanwhile, friends of the two people who died are remembering Mihirtej Boddupalli, 21, of Lisle, and Sajaad Safiullah Syed, 21, of Naperville for being funny, confident and optimistic.

    Former American Gladiator, health trainer and Lisle native Jennifer Widerstrom will replace longtime trainer Jillian Michaels on the upcoming season of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.” Widerstrom, a former Naperville North High School gymnast, will help the show’s obese contestants shed weight and reclaim their health when the show’s 16th season debuts Sept. 11. Filming began last week.

    A Naperville teen’s tribute to the hospital that helped save her father’s life raised nearly $2,000 and brought 150 people together for a night of “Healing Hearts with Harmony.” “It was really exciting to be able to look out and see I put on this concert and I was able to bring all these people together,” said Taylor Kroma, who planned the benefit concert for Edward Hospital.

    Literally and figuratively, Bob Quinn is coming home. At Monday’s Naperville Unit District 203 Board Meeting, Quinn was approved to become Naperville North’s new athletic director. He replaces Jim Konrad, who stepped down to work in the deans’ office so he’ll be able to return to coaching soccer.

    Naperville North coach Steve Goletz said a key moment in goalkeeper Fiona Baenziger’s season came when she saved a penalty kick to help the Huskies defeat Lyons Twp. late last month at the Naperville Invitational. That momentum continued Friday afternoon in the Class 3A Bolingbrook regional final where she stopped four of five Neuqua Valley penalty kicks as Naperville North beat the Wildcats 2-1.

  • Naperville Central nips Naperville North May 22, 2014 11:01 PM
    With the postseason just a few days away, neither the Naperville Central boys volleyball team or Naperville North squad could ask for a better regular-season finale. The Redhawks (31-4, 12-2 DuPage Valley Conference) won Thursday 21-25, 25-17 and 25-18 in front of a large senior night crowd at Naperville North. The pace was quick, the hitting hard and at the end both teams felt the match gave them momentum going into regional play early next week.

    How can there be a blowout at the state tournament? It’s not like Sandburg and Naperville North haven’t seen each other this year. In that matchup Naperville North broke open a close game after halftime back on April 12. “It was 3-3 at halftime,’’ said Naperville North coach Martin Bell. Thursday marked the beginning of the boys water polo state finals at Stevenson High School, and Naperville North junior Drake McClure scored the first goal for the Huskies less than 30 seconds into the match.
