    The Blackhawks are 9-0-2 because on this tight-knit team, everyone knows his role. Take Jamal Mayers. His role is to protect and enforce and change the momentum of games when he gets on the ice as a fourth liner. Mayers did just that in Thursday's 6-2 win against Phoenix. “I understand what my job is, trying to create momentum," he said.

    Patrick Kane had two goals and an assist, and the Chicago Blackhawks remained the only NHL team without a loss in regulation this season by routing the Phoenix Coyotes 6-2 Thursday night. Viktor Stalberg, Jonathan Toews and Bryan Bickell each had a goal and an assist as the Blackhawks improved to 9-0-2. Dave Bolland also scored for Chicago.

    The Blackhawks came back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 Tuesday night and beat San Jose 5-3 to improve to 8-0-2 on the season. With Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville going back to Crawford, his No. 1 goaltender, despite Ray Emery's 45-save effort at Calgary on Saturday, it was Crawford entrusted with beating the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion.

    Andrew Shaw isn't off to the greatest start as the Blackhawks' third line center points-wise, but that's apparently not a problem with general manager Stan Bowman. "If anything, he's been effective," Bowman said. "Looking at the way that he plays, he's got that ability with his speed, he's always around the puck. The way that he plays with his disruptive style, maybe we haven't noticed it that much because he's been focused on being a reliable player. Shaw has a goal and 2 assists in nine games and is plus-2. He scored his only goal last week at Minnesota.

    Marian Hossa scored the tying goal with 2.3 seconds left in the third, Patrick Kane added a goal in regulation then had the shootout winner and the Chicago Blackhawks earned a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. Ray Emery had 45 saves for Chicago (7-0-2), which stayed unbeaten in regulation.

    Emery steals the show for Hawks Feb 3, 2013 12:00 AM
    It was the very definition of a goalie win. With Ray Emery making 42 saves in regulation and 45 through overtime, the Blackhawks beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night. It didn’t look good for Emery and the Hawks when Jay Bouwmeester gave the Flames a 2-1 lead with 35 seconds to play, but Marian Hossa tied it on his sixth goal with three seconds left with Emery pulled for a sixth attacker.

    David Desharnais and Erik Cole scored first-period goals and the Montreal Canadiens held on for a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. The win completed a sweep of weekend matinees at home for Montreal (6-2-0) after a 6-1 win Saturday over the Buffalo Sabres. The Canadiens have won five straight at home after dropping their home opener to Toronto on Jan. 19.

    It was a game of disputed deflections and odd bounces, with the puck behaving more like that oblong ball with the laces more commonly associated with Super Bowl Sunday. The strangest carom of all came on a simple dump-in that hit a stanchion along the glass and went into a net deserted by a befuddled goaltender.

    Jordan Schroeder scored in a shootout to give the Vancouver Canucks a 2-1 victory over the Blackhawks on Friday night. Schroeder, who hasn’t scored a traditional goal in the regular season, fired a low, hard shot that squeaked through the pads of goalie Corey Crawford.
