ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper's latest calculations have the Bears taking Manti Te'o with the 20th pick in the first round of the draft later this month. But Kiper said the Bears' NFC North rival Vikings might be tempted to trade up ahead of them from their spot at No. 23 in order to steal Te'o. "I did the projection late (Tuesday) night, and I just looked at all the angles, and I think Chicago is where (Te'o) is going to fall," Kiper said.

Big season ahead for Bears’ Webb Apr 2, 2013 12:00 AM
A lot has happened to Bears offensive lineman J'Marcus Webb in the off-season. He was arrested for possession of marijuana, although charges were later dropped, and he was moved from left tackle to right tackle after the team acquired two-time Pro Bowler Jermon Bushrod to play the left side. Webb addressed both issues Tuesday and said he would miss team leader Brian Urlacher, although Bears chairman George McCaskey left the door open for the linebacker's return.

As expected, the Chicago Bears released defensive tackle Matt Toeaina, who started 24 games in five seasons in Chicago. Toeaina, declined to renegotiate his contract to help the Bears stay under the salary cap. By releasing him, the Bears save $1.1 million.

Former Bears coach Jack Pardee dies at 76 Apr 1, 2013 12:00 AM
Jack Pardee, one of Bear Bryant's "Junction Boys" at Texas A&M who went on to become an All-Pro linebacker and an NFL coach, died Monday at 76. He was the Bears' head coach from 1975-77 and guided Chicago to its first playoff appearance since the early 1960s.

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey. In 2012, Heyward-Bey started 14 games for Oakland and had 41 receptions for 606 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.

Two days after losing starting guard Lance Louis to the Dolphins in free agency, the Bears signed former Jets guard Matt Slauson to bolster an offensive line that had become thin in talent at that position. Slauson has been a full-time starter for the past three seasons and did not allow a sack last season.
