Baseball-loving mom remembered with a charity softball tournament May 13, 2012 12:00 AM
Softball and food were two of Gloria Capek's favorite things. After the mother of five died of breast cancer in 1999, at age 64, her family created a charity softball tournament in her memory that includes a large buffet of food. Now in its 11th year, the event has raised more than $60,000 for local breast cancer charities. "She would have just absolutely loved this," said her daughter, Deb Boylan, 54 of Vernon Hills.

Maine West High School is trying to crack down on "grinding" at school dances. School officials intend to have more eyes on the dance floor to keep kids from doing sexually suggestive moves and also have tested a wristband measure. “Some of the dancing, when it amounts to simulated sex act," said district spokesman Dave Beery said.
