Carol Stream library picks new director Dec 27, 2012 12:00 AM
A Glenbard North High School graduate who grew up near Carol Stream will become the new director of the Carol Stream Public Library, officials announced Thursday. Susan Westgate, 52, the current assistant director of the Bartlett Public Library, will begin her new role in Carol Stream Jan. 28, 2013. In job interviews with the library board and management, she says both groups expressed their desire for her to help change the negative perception some in the community may have of the library. "They just want to kind of change when people say, Carol Stream Public Library' — they're gonna have a good feeling about it and not be thinking about the things they read in the paper."

  • Emily Prasad of Lombard is promoting the benefits of eating food grown locally by starting a co-op called Eat Local DuPage and growing several edible plants in her yard, including this serviceberry shrub.

Eating locally comes naturally for Lombard womanApr 16, 2012 12:00 AM
Three years before she led a group of Lombard residents seeking the right to keep chickens in their backyards, Emily Prasad started eating locally. Now, she's becoming something of a local food expert, giving talks about how to become a "locavore" and starting an online food purchasing co-op, all in hopes that the failed backyard chicken initiative may someday be reconsidered.
