    Wheeling has declared a surplus in its South Milwaukee Tax Increment Financing district, which means one-time payments totaling $2.5 million will go to local governments. Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 will receive $1.1 million; Northwest Suburban High School District 214 will get $562,369; and the village of Wheeling will get $275,375.

    Jenn Biela led a group of school-age kids in a series of experiments with chemistry at the Indian Trails Library in Wheeling Saturday. In the program, called “Chemistry Fun,” the children learned about chromatography and capillary action, made silly putty and, of course, mixed vinegar and baking soda with an added twist of soap and food coloring.

The free event is from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the library, 355 Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. Registration is requested.

     
  • Indian Trails Library gets second new director in two years Sep 28, 2013 3:56 PM
    The Indian Trails Library District board of trustees has hired Brian Shepard as its new director, effective Oct. 28, the district announced in a news release dated for release Sunday. Shepard was most recently serving as the assistant director/director of operations at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. “The board and staff had the opportunity to interview the four finalists for the job and everyone was solidly behind Brian as our top candidate,” said Wally Salganik, library board president.

    The Indian Trails Library District has been selected as the only U.S. public library to host “All of Polonia Reads to Kids,” designed to strengthen activities that promote reading to children in the Polish Diaspora. The free event will take place Sunday, Oct. 6, 1-3 p.m., at the library, 355 Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling.
