  • Van Riemsdyk’s big goal sparks Blackhawks Nov 9, 2014 10:49 PM
A “3-D” show, which didn’t require wacky glasses, provided offense-deprived Blackhawks fans an unexpected treat in the opening period.News: And while a rerun of the Blackhawks’ previous home game nearly developed, there was a happy ending after all Sunday night at the United Center. With rookie defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk starring along side a two-time Norris Trophy winner for the first time in his 15-game NHL career, the Blackhawks defeated San Jose 5-2, snapping a three-game, home-ice losing streak in which they scored just a pair of goals.

  • Blackhawks’ Toews a model of consistency Nov 9, 2014 9:27 PM
Jonathan Toews was the Blackhawks’ only player in double-digit points heading into Sunday night’s home game against San Jose. While the team captain’s team-leading 5 goals and 6 assists in 14 games barely ranked him in the top 50 among the NHL scoring leaders, the play of the 2013 Selke Trophy winner has continued to be defined by his work on both ends of the ice and in the faceoff circle.

  • Hossa shuffled to unfamiliar spot on third line Nov 8, 2014 6:12 PM
Answer: The 1985 Bears, cards at a blackjack table and Blackhawks’ lines. Question: Name three things that are always shuffling.

  • Hawks let 2-0 lead vanish in blink of an eye Nov 8, 2014 12:09 AM
After going seven straight periods without scoring a goal at the United Center, Brandon Saad helped the Blackhawks get off the schneid in a big way Friday, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 loss to Washington.

  • Hawks can’t withstand Caps’ scoring barrage, fall 3-2 Nov 7, 2014 10:22 PM
After going seven straight periods without scoring a goal at the United Center, Brandon Saad helped the Blackhawks get off the schneid in a big way Friday, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 loss to Washington.

  • Shaw hardly satisfied with his play Nov 7, 2014 11:19 PM
Even though Andrew Shaw has been relatively safe from all the line shuffles of late, it doesn’t mean the young center is satisfied with his play. At all.

  • Rockford teammates impressed Regin Nov 7, 2014 12:15 PM
Want to feel good about the Blackhawks’ future? Listen to how recently-recalled forward Peter Regin describes what the Hawks have waiting in the wings in Rockford. “It’s deep. Very deep,” Regin said.

  • These managers and coaches can carve up opponents Nov 7, 2014 12:17 PM
If there were separate Mount Rushmores for active managers/coaches in each of the four major sports leagues, I think it’s fair to say that Chicago right now would be represented on three of them by Tom Thibodeau, Joel Quenneville and Joe Maddon.

  • Saad, Regin get chance to strut their stuff Nov 7, 2014 12:15 PM
“Shooter” has been sidelined. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville on Thursday made official what had been rumored for the past couple of days: Patrick Sharp will be sidelined “3 or 4 weeks” with a lower body injury after an apparent knee-to-knee collision with Alexei Emelin Tuesday night in Montreal.

  • Spellman: Who will step up in Sharp’s absence? Nov 5, 2014 9:28 PM
As Albert Einstein once said. “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” That seems to be the philosophy Joel Quenneville and the Blackhawks are taking in regards to the lower body injury suffered by Patrick Sharp in Montreal, an injury that will keep the veteran forward out of the lineup for “a bit” of time, according to the Hawks coach.

  • Wolves beat Grand Rapids 3-1 Nov 5, 2014 6:01 PM
Early starting times certainly agree with the Chicago Wolves. The Wolves fell behind 1-0, then scored 3 unanswered goals en route to 3-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins in a AHL Wednesday matinee at Van Andel Arena. The Wolves (6-2-2-0) earned a Midwest Division win and moved to 11-2-0-0 in matinees as Terry Broadhurst, Philip McRae and Ty Rattie scored. • Toews ignites Blackhawks’ scoring spree Nov 4, 2014 11:29 PM
For a team struggling mightily to put the puck in the net, there was so much to like about the Blackhawks’ 5-0 victory Tuesday night in Montreal. First of all, just scoring more than 2 goals in a game had to top the list.

  • Toews on Blackhawks’ woes: We’ll keep working through it Nov 3, 2014 10:51 PM
As far as Jonathan Toews is concerned, the Blackhawks’ scoring woes of late — including a 1-0 shutout at the hands of Winnipeg on Sunday — isn’t from a lack of effort or confidence, rather, it’s just one of those hockey things.

  • Turnover trouble dooms Blackhawks Nov 3, 2014 12:21 AM
Another festival of turnovers Sunday didn’t help the Blackhawks, who lost 1-0 to Winnipeg at home. “We know we can play better,” Marian Hossa said. “For whatever reason we have too many turnovers.”
