    A new, larger playground is coming to the Field of Dreams in Grant Township. Township Supervisor Kay Starostovic said the new playground will feature slides, two climbing walls, monkey bars and swings, and will be open for children ages 5 through 12. It will be about 60 feet by 80 feet in size.

    Grant High School officials will keep interim-principal John Barbini for another year after the man selected to be the new principal accepted, then later rejected the job. Jim McKay, co-superintendent of Antioch High School District 117, was announced earlier this year as Grant's new principal, but he backed out of the job several weeks later in March.

    Longtime Fox Lake resident Bob Irwin is remembered for his love of family and community involvement. Irwin, 80, was surrounded by family members when he died after a lengthy illness Sunday. Survivors include his wife, former Fox Lake mayor Cindy Irwin.

    Farm work was a labor of love for a young William Schroeder, but it was a passion for writing and community that led to a 55-year career in the local news business in Lake County. The Long Lake resident and co-founder and former publisher of Lakeland newspapers died Saturday. He was 82.
