    Two decades of enrollment growth at Grant High School has resulted in construction of new classrooms, a library and a fieldhouse at the Fox Lake campus in recent years. Now, officials say, it’s time to focus on improvements to outdoor athletic fields. A 40-acre complex is being built in Ingleside, about five miles from the main campus.

Mayor Donny Schmit hopes a new attempt to build a hotel on the 19-acre Sayles property near Eagle Point Road is the real deal.

    Over objections from several youth sports coaches, Grant High School District 124 board members voted Thursday to leave the North Suburban Conference and particpate in a new, unnamed conference. The local youth sports coaches said the decision would hurt Grant in the long run.

    A former Grant High School teacher who resigned from her job six weeks ago amid allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student is facing criminal charges. Amber Kraus, 30, formerly of Grayslake, has been charged with criminal sexual assault of a victim between the ages of 13 and 17, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen Scheller said Wednesday.

    A Grant High School teacher has resigned amid allegations the teacher had inappropriate contact with a student. Superintendent Christie Sefcik, of Grant High School District 124 in Fox Lake, said in a letter sent home to parents that administrators received information alleging the inappropriate contact on Oct. 6. Police were immediately contacted and the unidentified teacher has resigned, Sefcik said.

    Grant High School teachers will be paid an extra 12 percent over a new three-year contract. School leaders said the biggest increase comes in the second year of the agreement, when the school day will increase by 30 minutes. District leaders and teachers have approved the contract.

Charlie Brown and the Peanut gang sing and dance their way through the trials and tribulations of youth in the musical based on the beloved cartoon strip by Charles M. Schultz.
