Lin also helped lead his team to an impressive third-place finish in the team race behind perenial powers Glenbrook South and North. The Titans, behind the superb doubles team of Michael Sellitto and Michael Levin and its No. 2 team of Luke McCanna and Will Lyon, outscored its Central Suburba League rival Glenbrook North 25-19 to win the team battle. The Saxons finished with 18 points, 4 more than Conant. Barrington, which qualified its No. 1 doubles team (George Coll-Varun Parekh), finished fifth overall with 12 overall points.

Trying to hold at bay a team like Glenbrook South that has been on a roll for the last half of the season was something Carmel's girls soccer team wanted to do Saturday morning. And for the most part, the Corsairs battled fiercely with the Titans for a full 80 minutes. But fourth-seeded Carmel couldn't get past No. 5 Glenbrook South as the Titans claimed a 2-0 victory in a Class 3A regional final in Glenview.

  • VH’s Kadyrov, Warren’s Trukov make their point(s) Apr 7, 2012 12:00 AM
In a crucial no-ad point in a singles semifinal at Saturdays Liberty Bell boys tennis invite at Glenbrook North, Vernon Hills junior Ismail Kadyrov did everything right. The Cougar was up 5-4 on Warren junior Kristiyan Trukov at the time. But Kadyrovs reward for hitting stellar shots in the highly competitive exchange was a point for Trukov. The Blue Devil had come up with a resounding winner on game point. Trukov then won the next two games to take the first set 7-5. Ismail was able to forget about that first set and focus all of his attention on the second set, VH coach Doug Gerber would say later. Kadyrov claimed the second set 6-3, after trailing 3-1, and advanced to the final with a 10-7 decision in the super tiebreaker.

  • Schoenfeld spells trouble for Carmel’s foes Apr 7, 2012 12:00 AM
Note the k in the not-so-traditional spelling of Carmel Catholic pitcher Erika Schoenfelds first name. Its fitting. While the junior doesnt necessarily ring up plenty of Ks, she does throw plenty of strikes. Take a two-strike pitch from Schoenfeld and be prepared to be rung up. Shes just a strike machine, Carmel coach Jason Raymond said of Schoenfeld, after her complete-game shutout led the Corsairs to a 2-0 win over Glenbrook South in the second game of the day for each team at Carmel on Saturday.
