  • Thankful Glenbard West rolls over Whitney YoungMar 27, 2014 12:00 AM
The Glenbard West boys volleyball team continued an annual tradition Wednesday of playing host to Whitney Young for its home opener and treating the Dolphins to a postgame dinner in the field house. “(It’s occurred) as long as I’ve been here. It’s really nice,” senior tri-captain Andrew Roberts said. “It’s kind of a dinner to thank them.” On the court the Hilltoppers showed a hunger that should mean good things for the 2014 season. Strong blocking and defense complemented a solid offensive night for a 25-12, 25-13 victory in Glen Ellyn.

    Stobart, Waubonsie savor season-ending highlightMar 20, 2014 12:00 AM
Tommy Stobart, a senior at Waubonsie Valley, has had a season filled with highlight-reel goals. But it was a goal he was errantly credited with on Thursday night at the United Center that he always will remember. Stobart said it was, in reality, senior Michael O’Hara (Waubonsie Valley) who scored for the co-op Waubsonie Warriors with 7.3 seconds remaining in the first period. O’Hara’s momentum-swinging, game-winning goal helped Waubonsie defeat Glenbard 3-0 for the state championship in the Combined Division. This was Waubonsie’s first hockey state championship, and the team finished the season 42-11-2. Glenbard ends its season 32-19-4.
