    Benet is about to play a game of musical chairs no softball team wishes for. That's after sophomore catcher Stephanie Abello hurt her wrist Saturday at Marian Catholic when she banged into a fence chasing a pop-up. A trainer on site thought the wrist could be broken, but X-rays that evening came back negative. Abello will likely go for an MRI Tuesday.

Abello homered twice on Wednesday, Marissa Panko went deep with a solo shot and the No. 3 Redwings used that power and Emily York pitching to beat No. 7 Glenbard South 6-3 in Lisle.

    Former Glenbard student avoids felony conviction Apr 29, 2013 12:00 AM
    A Lombard teen who was expelled for taking a 30-inch "clublike object" to Glenbard South High School has avoided a felony conviction. Steven Allen, 17, pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge of misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to a year of conditional discharge, 100 hours of community service and a tour of the DuPage County jail, according to an agreement with prosecutors.

    Just what Lake Park needs. Another guy. On the biggest stage of his outdoor track season thus far, Lancers first-year hurdler Antonio Shenault won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles at the 34th annual Jim Arnold Invite at Glenbard West. Shenault, a starting cornerback for the Lancers football team last fall, sliced a half-second off his prior best to beat teammate Scott Filip in the 110s at 14.50 seconds and won the 300 by more than a second at 40.25. "Last year I was just a sprinter, so I thought I'd try new things and hurdling was the first thing I tried. It clearly worked," he said

    Possibly the only thing more impressive than Wheaton Warrenville South's team victory at the 36th annual Tiger Invitational on Friday was Glenbard West junior Madeline Perez's time in the 3,200-meter run. The Tigers won their own girls track meet for a third consecutive year, racking up 130.5 points to easily defeat second-place St. Ignatius, which scored 63. "It was real exciting," said Tigers senior co-captain Jessica Spera. "Our team, we push each other really hard in practices. We just come out here and each do our best, so it's really awesome." "It's a fun meet, and for us to do as well as we did with the quality of the teams, I mean St. Ignatius, nobody knows about a St. Ignatius," said Tigers coach Rob Harvey. "They're unbelievable. Glenbard West is a great team."

    After a great performance last week, Stevenson was hoping to challenge Mundelein for the Independent Conference boys gymnastics title Wednesday night at Glenbard South. The Patriots did give the Mustangs a run for their money, but they could not prevent Mundelein from winning its third straight conference crown, 148.75 to 146.4.
