  • Glenbard South makes it five straight sectionals May 17, 2014 12:10 AM
Glenbard South knows if it can hand the baton to anchor runner Katelyn Hill near the front of the pack, the Raiders senior will give her team a great chance to win most relays. At Friday night’s Class 2A girls track sectional, the host Raiders had a small lead when Hill took over in the night’s final event, the 1,600 relay, and when Hill was done doing her thing, Glenbard South had easily held off runner-up Montini with a winning time of 4:04.06. The race capped off another big night for Hill as well as for her team, which has now claimed five straight sectional crowns.

  • Elements intervene in as Catalano, Carli excel May 12, 2014 10:33 PM
Rain and lightning prevented the conclusion of Monday’s softball game between Glenbard South and Neuqua Valley, and the postponement also put an end to what was turning into a dandy pitchers’ duel. The visiting Raiders and the host Wildcats took a scoreless tie into the fifth inning before the game was delayed by lightning in Naperville. After waiting the required 30 minutes to resume play, more lightning was sighted in the area and the coaches decided to postpone the game. Before weather stopped play, Wildcats starter Kristin Catalano and Raiders starter Taylor Carli each tossed four scoreless innings in the nonconference battle. Carli held Neuqua Valley (15-10) to just two first-inning singles, while Catalano needed to work out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the top of the third to keep the score 0-0.

Jopes ran a personal-best time of 39.08 to win the 300 low hurdles, and he took a solid second to Shenault in the high hurdles. After placing at state last year in both the 300 hurdles and the 1,600 relay, Jopes appears ready for another postseason charge this spring.

  • Glenbard S. can’t pull off perfect outcome May 6, 2014 10:30 PM
With Riverside-Brookfield’s Will Kincanon pitching like the ace he is, Glenbard South’s baseball team needed to play close to perfect in the field and on the mound. For five innings on Tuesday, the Raiders did just that. The Bulldogs ultimately broke through in the sixth and seventh inning, however, to claim a 7-1 victory over Glenbard South in the first matchup of a key three-game Metro Suburban Conference series in Glen Ellyn.
