Glenbard approves contract with support staff Jun 11, 2013 12:00 AM
Educational and instructional aides, secretaries, library clerks, technology specialists and other support staff members at the four Glenbard District 87 high schools will have a new three-year contract starting this summer that includes annual raises of about 3 percent each year. But the new agreement, approved unanimously by the school board this week, also allows some who announce plans to retire within the next three years to get 5.5 percent salary boosts each year that would allow future retirees to pad their retirements.

Glenbard South wins second straight titleJun 8, 2013 12:00 AM
Jane Trzaska's experience and unflappable nature in the clutch, and Alexis Silkwood's unflinching belief that she can get any batter out. Those two endearing qualities of a competitor merged to make Glenbard South history. Trzaska took a Silkwood two-strike pitch the other way for a two-out triple to score Payton Carli, delivering Glenbard South past Alton Marquette 1-0 in eight innings in a tense Class 3A final at Eastside Centre in East Peoria and bringing a back-to-back state softball championship back to Glen Ellyn.

In the clutch, it’s Taylor again for Glenbard SouthJun 7, 2013 12:00 AM
Hannah Taylor is as cool, calm and even-keeled as a teen-aged kid comes. When you’re this clutch, what’s to worry about? The author of the game-winning hit in last year’s championship game, Taylor was in the middle of things again Friday. The Glenbard South senior singled in the go-ahead run, then crushed a two-run homer as the Raiders moved closer to a repeat title by beating Tinley Park 5-1 in Friday’s Class 3A state semifinal at Eastside Centre.

Glenbard South’s latest trip to state is worth the wait Jun 3, 2013 12:00 AM
When Hannah Taylor is involved, good things always seem to happen for Glenbard South. She didn’t mind waiting 11 innings for it to find her Monday. “I was like, ‘Let’s go another one,’” the Raiders senior said. “It’s do or die. This is it.” Taylor came home with the winning run on a Fenwick throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the 11th, and Glenbard South is going back to state after surviving a 2-1 marathon at Monday’s Class 3A Nazareth supersectional in LaGrange Park.

Taylor, Glenbard South on the money Jun 1, 2013 12:00 AM
Hannah Taylor was waiting on the “money pitch” during her last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Glenbard South senior third baseman waited in the batter’s box as Lemont’s Carly Jaworski threw a first pitch fastball that Taylor knocked up the middle for a single. The two-out hit drove in teammate Jane Trzaska from second, giving the defending state champion a 6-5 comeback victory and the Class 3A Nazareth sectional title. With the win the Raiders move on to Monday’s Nazareth supersectional where they will face Fenwick at 4:30 p.m.

Clemente edges Glenbard South May 31, 2013 12:00 AM
In a Class 3A baseball sectional semifinal characterized by gift runs early, there was no doubt about the legitimacy of the final two runs Clemente scored against Glenbard South. The Wildcats’ David Gonzalez and Jerimiah Figueroa each parked solo home runs during a fourth-inning three-batter sequence to give Clemente, a traditional Public League power, the lead for good. The defining element to the conclusion of the Raiders’ season was hard-throwing senior southpaw Joseph Marciano. Glenbard South stranded 11 batters during its 6-5 loss Friday in LaGrange Park at the Nazareth sectional, which was completed a day late due to inclement weather.
